And when it comes to your bridal appointment, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and anticipation. After all, this is one of the most important and thrilling moments of your wedding planning journey! But this is one of the few cases where the early bird does not, in fact, get the worm.

A bridal boutique can be a whirlwind of activity, especially during peak season. Picture veils flying, dresses being clipped and styled, lace and glitter everywhere. As fun and exciting as that is, it’s not necessarily what you want to walk into as a bride-to-be. The timing of our appointments is meticulously curated, so that after the previous bride finishes up, us bridal consultants have enough time to re-process the gowns and reset the space. Our goal is for you to step into an environment that is calm, organized, and ready for you to explore the full selection of gowns in the showroom without being caught in a whirlwind of appointment clean ups and dresses getting put away.

Size Charts! Why is my bridal size different than my normal size?
Let’s delve into why bridal sizing differs, and why tailoring is your best friend in achieving the perfect fit for your wedding day.
Bridal sizing almost always runs small. A bride who normally wears a size 6 in everyday clothing may find herself fitting into a size 8 or 10 in bridal wear. Why? This discrepancy can be attributed to various factors, including the structure of bridal garments, as well as the fact that bridal designers do not have one universal sizing chart. In fact, almost every designer’s sizing chart is slightly different from the next. To make it even more confusing, we have lots of gowns by European and Australian bridal designers here in the States, and both European and Australian sizing differs exponentially from American sizing. In these designers, a bride will be ordering a size two to three sizes up from what they are used to. But the size is just a number! It is essential to focus on how the dress fits and feels rather than getting hung up on the number on the tag, which will not represent your shape.
Tailoring is a crucial step in the process. Regardless of whether you buy a dress off the rack or opt for a custom-made gown, alterations are always necessary to achieve the perfect fit. A skilled tailor can make adjustments to the dress, ensuring that it flatters your body shape and allows for ease of movement.

What will my bridal appointment be like?
Hi brides! Elise, here. I’m a bridal consultant with Kimberly James Bridal, and I’d love to share with you some information of what to expect at your bridal appointment with us!
The very first thing that will happen is that you will fill out a short form so we know your wedding date, venue, budget, and any information you have about what styles and silhouettes you are liking so far. If you have no idea about that yet, all good! We love helping brides try on a myriad of styles so as to find the favorite look.
Our appointments are 1.5 hours, so we have plenty of time to try on lots of gowns! You’ll have a specific bridal consultant working with you throughout your appointment, and she will guide you through our well-stocked showroom and take whichever gowns you are interested in to your salon’s fitting room. We generally say there is time to try 10-12 gowns, but more may be possible if time allows.
Once you feel you have seen all the options and are ready to try on, your consultant will assist you with getting into the gowns and fitting them to you correctly. Don’t worry if the samples are not all your size — that’s what clipping is for! Our samples are different sizes ranging from 6 to 18, and our Plus section has samples sized 18 to 40. We will help you to envision exactly how the gowns will each look in the correct size.
